The Exact Turf Cleaning Schedule for Las Vegas Pet Owners

If you’re a pet owner in Las Vegas, keeping your artificial turf clean and odor-free is more than just an aesthetic choice—it’s essential for your comfort, your pet’s health, and your home’s overall freshness.

But how often should you actually clean it?

The answer relies on a few variables including how many dogs you have that use the turf and how much traffic and direct sunlight the turf gets throughout the day.

For example, for three or more dogs, I recommend my clients to get a monthly service. However, in the summer time, it’s very easy for the bacteria to grow and multiply, so even households with as little as one dog may need a monthly cleaning. It ultimately comes down to your preference on how odor free you want your turf to be.

Why Las Vegas Turf Needs Special Attention

The desert climate creates the perfect storm for turf challenges:

  • Extreme heat speeds up bacterial growth.

  • Minimal rain means odors and debris don’t get flushed naturally.

  • Dust and pet traffic build up fast, especially in shaded areas.

Whether you’ve got a small pup or a multi-dog household, your cleaning schedule needs to reflect the realities of life in Vegas.

A Turf Cleaning Schedule That Works in Las Vegas

Use this as your go-to guide for year-round care:

Every 1–2 Days:

Quick Spot Clean

  • Rinse urine spots with water

    • a professional enzyme or hydrogen peroxide based solution is preferred as water can feed bacteria and make it multiply faster, increasing the urine odor. Some of my favorite solutions are linked at the bottom.

  • Scoop solid waste and flush the area.

  • Use a pet-safe enzyme spray (fragrance-free) on high-traffic zones.

Weekly:

Light Surface Clean

  • Lightly brush the blades to lift matted spots.

    • brushing the blades against the grain may also loosen and distribute compacted infill.

  • Deodorize with a turf-safe spray (look for products with active enzymes, not just fragrance).

Monthly:

Groom & Inspect

  • Use a power broom or stiff-bristle brush to reset fibers.

    • Again, always go against the grain to make your turf blades stand upright and look more like real grass.

  • Check for hot spots: areas with buildup, strong odors, or compacted infill.

    • Compacted infill is more often than not a hot spot for not only hidden odors, but also turf blades that are having trouble standing up. This is because the infill is actually holding the turf down rather than helping it stand up.

  • Flush sections thoroughly if pet use is high.

Quarterly (Every 3 Months):

Pro-Grade Deep Clean

  • Full turf sanitation using commercial-grade equipment.

  • Enzyme treatment to neutralize embedded odors.

  • Infill top-off if needed (especially if you notice flattening or odor pockets).

  • Grooming and brushing to restore blade lift.

Why Professional Deep Cleans Are Non-Negotiable

Even if you’re on top of DIY maintenance, it’s nearly impossible to extract all the bacteria and odor that settle into the infill and backing layers without pro tools.

At LV Turf Cleaning, we use:

  • Heated enzyme flushes

  • Bacteria-killing sanitizers

  • Infill restoration techniques

  • Turf grooming equipment that protects the turf’s integrity

Your turf doesn’t just look fresh after—we make sure it is fresh, deep down.
